Using expertise of church members in school

Faith is an essential part of many people's identity and can't be left outside the school gate. Schools need to take seriously the way in which they deal with issues related to faith. Not all school staff feel competent or expert when dealing with faith-related matters.

Church leaders and other local Christians, possibly Christian schools workers, will be willing to work with your school as you support staff and pupils in this important aspect of school life. This could include:

• Developing respect for those within the school community, who belong to various religions
• Offering all pupils the opportunity to understand religious faith better through the taught curriculum, especially through RE
  
• Inputting into the collective worship programme
  
• Supporting Christian pupils in their faith development, and through voluntary opportunities, supporting other pupils who want to explore faith for themselves
  
• Your school can invite a local church or Christian schools worker to run an extra-curricular Christian group
  
• Discussing the possibility of a local church appointing someone suitable as a school chaplain
