Local Christian schools workers

Churches in many places in the UK employ one person or a team of people who are gifted in working with young people in the school context. Sometimes a church will do this independently, work together with other local churches, or work with a national Christian organisation. In some cases, the Christian schools worker is jointly employed by the church and the school, and they act as youth worker for the church and chaplain for the school.

There may be such a Christian schools worker or team in your area. Enquire of your local church or ask other headteachers in your area whether they can recommend anyone.

Christian schools workers are now usually well trained, even to degree level, often with a teaching or youth work background. They may be specialists in either primary or secondary age groups, occasionally in both phases. They are usually available to support the needs of the school in a wide variety of ways, depending on what the school wants. Ideas include:

If you plan a special activities week, your local Christian schools worker may have a lot of useful ideas and contacts. They may well have contact with one of the national Christian youth work organisations and be able to invite specialist drama teams or bands to run the week for you in school.

Many Christian schools workers raise their own financial support. If your school is making a lot of use of a Christian schools worker, a financial gift towards their salary may be appropriate. Check that out with the local church once you have got to know the person concerned.
