For well over a hundred years there has been one Sunday in the year designated as Education Sunday (in England and Wales). Traditionally it is held on the ninth Sunday before Easter (but churches can choose any Sunday convenient for them).
Education Sunday is a national day of prayer and celebration for everyone in the world of education. Each year, a theme is devised by a steering group representing different Christian denominations and Christian education organisations. They produce materials for churches to use for their Education Sunday events.
Education Sunday is an ideal opportunity to put education on the church agenda. Possibly, a local church may invite your school to take part in the special service by helping to lead it, bring a music or drama contribution or simply by attending. They may suggest leading prayers for all those in the congregation who are involved in education - pupils, staff, governors, advisers, volunteers and parents.
Taking part in such a service will give you the opportunity to build a stronger relationship with the church as a basis for other partnership initiatives. You could also invite church members to support your school in a whole variety of ways as volunteers, or suggest education projects and resources for which the church could support you by fundraising.
